Hollyglow Education
Hollyglow Education started on a photo shoot in Guatemala in 2019. Equipped with $20-worth of watercolors, paintbrushes, and art history books, Hollyglow gave the children of this small rural town something to do other than flipping tortillas or cutting sugar cane. We learned that these kids were starving for intellectual stimulation.
Education facilities in rural areas of Guatemala are severely lacking; some lack electricity and other’s lack running water. This school in particular lacks an adequate groundskeeper, so Hollyglow stepped in to help. Perhaps the biggest challenge rural schools face is a lack of qualified instructors. The English teacher at this school in particular could not speak English and taught from a dated textbook. She did not have the proper tools or training for the challenge at hand.
Guatemala’s rural children are brilliant and dedicated. When they don’t have the resources to feed their minds, they’re working hard to support their families. Hollyglow is presently working with partners to build a school in the Municipality of Flores, Department of Peten, Guatemala. Once completed, the school will have qualified English teachers and will also offer classes in various other vocational skills. The school will also have adjacent dormitories for recent university graduates who assume teaching positions. Hollyglow commits to making the school a safe place of learning that is eco-friendly and self-sustaining.
